Luminary, the subscription podcast network releasing Midnight Miracle, shared a video on Monday where Chappelle and fellow hosts Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli hear the podcast’s theme song for the first time. In an Instagram post from the official Midnight Miracle account, the post notes that the theme music is actually a song titled “Red Poppies” by A. Petrenko. The song was introduced to Kweli by his friend and fellow rapper Issa Ali.
The Midnight Miracle will provide “a glimpse into a very interesting season in the lives of the three hosts and their friends, and features guests from among the country’s most influential cultural icons,” according to a previous press release.
The press release goes on to say that the series will be done “In the variety show tradition,” where “conversations are punctuated with sketches, impersonations, archival audio clips, and a powerful soundtrack that includes music from Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, D’Angelo, Heatwave featuring Johnny Wilder, and much more to come.”
The series was recorded last year during Chappelle’s Summer Camp, with the three hosts going through more than 100 hours of recorded content to create the show’s first season. The show will be released in the coming weeks on Luminary (a subscription podcast network), with the series continuing throughout the year. Only one season has been planned.
Following the announcement of the podcast, a trailer for it was released. The brief teaser features a prayer from Bey, with the rapper saying: “To the one who has created the all, you know us better than we know ourselves. And we know ourselves better than others know or pretend to know us. So pardon us for our shortcomings, whether they be known or unknown. Make us better than whatever they say and do not make us responsible for whatever they say.”
