Britt Lower & Alex Knell On The New Tribeca-Screened Film “Circus Person,” Future Projects, Circus Influences, Music & More – The Hype Magazine

In Circus Person, Ava (played by Britt Lower) is a square. When her fiancé admits to loving a free spirit named Luna (portrayed by Jess Marks), Ava joins a local circus in an act of wild abandon. But the heartache is not easily rinsed off, and starts to feed her fear that she is not cut out for being “wild too.” Wrestling with envy and imposter syndrome, Ava tests out a letter addressed to “the other woman.” In a surprise moment of reckoning under the full moon, Ava discovers her own version of wild. Live action and animated body-paint interweave in this ode to healing through radical love.

The aforementioned Britt Lower is not just the star of Circus Person, but also its writer and director. She has a beautiful personal connection to the story of Circus Power and is definitely an artist to watch. The film also stars Phil Smithey and Ramona Young, was produced by Sam Fox and Desiree Fox, and features editing and producer work by Alex Knell. Lower will be starring alongside Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette in the upcoming Ben Stiller-directed Apple TV+ drama Severance. Prior credits of Lower’s include Future Man, High Maintenance, Man Seeking Woman, Unforgettable and Casual.

On June 24, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Britt Lower and editor/producer Alex Knell about Circus Person, which screened at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, and plenty more via Zoom, as embedded below. Additional information about Circus Person can be found here, here and here.
