The Kanye West documentary series has been in the making for 21 years.

A Kanye West documentary series will be a part of Netflix’s streaming catalog at some point later this year. In a report from Billboard, the streaming service acquired the multi-part docuseries, which will be directed by Coodie & Chike, the duo who also directed West’s “Through The Wire” and “Jesus Walks” music videos. The unnamed project has been in the making for 21 years, with a handful of the footage — from home videos to never-before-seen footage of West — decades old.

The documentary willl center around the artist’s life since 2000, and will also highlight notable momments throughout his career, including the death of his mother Donda West, and his controversial 2020 presidential election campaign. Although some reports have stated that Netflix acquired the documentary for $30 million, a source told Variety that the amount was inaccurate.

In related news, Forbes recently challenged a report from Bloomberg suggesting that West had become the richest Black man in America following news of his recent partnership with Gap. Bloomberg had reported that West’s net worth was worth $6.6 billion, with $4.8 billion of that based on his Yeezy deal with Gap.

According to Forbes, the numbers in the original report were based on West’s own estimations of his wealth and not on the actual assets he owned. In fact, not even the valuation of Yeezy is based on hard numbers. Most of the company’s reported $4.8 billion valuation is wrapped up in a recent partnership with The Gap, which has yet to sell a single garment. The report adjusts the value of Yeezy accordingly, bringing the company’s worth down to $1.5 billion, as opposed to the $3.2 to $4.7 billion previously reported by Bloomberg.
